    Admission Counselor

    Birmingham-Southern College has an opening for an Admission Counselor.  The qualified candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and a preferred one year Admission recruiting experience or College counseling; preferably in a private, liberal arts setting; must be a self-starter with strong planning and communication skills. Must have the ability to articulate the value of a private, liberal arts education. Knowledge of the Admission/Financial Aid process is preferred.

    The Admission Counselor will attend college fairs, visit high schools, and other events in order to establish and maintain relationships with high school counselors, prospective students, and parents. Must also plan and execute 6 – 8 weeks combined fall and spring recruitment travel within assigned geographic territory.

    Assistant Director of Residence Life

    Birmingham-Southern College seeks an engaging, resourceful, and innovative individual to contribute to its student experience by enhancing connection and development within healthy residential communities.This is a full-time, 12 month, live-in staff position. The Assistant Director works closely with the Associate Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life to provide leadership to the Office of Residence Life’s day-to-day responsibilities and to support the approximately 85% of the College’s students living in traditional and suite-style halls, campus apartments, and townhouses. The Assistant Director will be responsible for the selection, training, and supervision of paraprofessional staff members to provide an enhanced on-campus living experience. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for the residence education efforts including effective evaluation and on-going assessment of initiatives created by residence life staff. Along with the Associate Dean and Assignments Coordinator, the Assistant Director will support other vital areas of the office that include supporting and overseeing the College’s growing international student community and assisting with assignments and room changes. The Assistant Director will provide leadership and support to the Office of Residence Life’s work in retention and support of the welfare of all students.

    Essential Responsibilities:
    Assist with the oversight of the day-to-day operations of residence halls, apartments, and Greek housing and collaborate closely with the operations and housekeeping departments to identify and respond to concerns.

    Directly supervise undergraduate Community Coordinators and support the supervision of Resident Advisors.

    Coordinate staff selection, training, and evaluation efforts of all paraprofessional staff members. Trainings include fall and spring trainings, monthly in-service trainings, and other staff development programming/activities.

    Conduct biweekly one-on-one meetings with Community Coordinators to develop and review goals and outcomes, address concerns, recognize contributions, solicit feedback, and build meaningful relationships.

    Further develop and implement a comprehensive community development programming model that enhances the on-campus living experience.

    Assist with large-scale, campus-wide Student Development programming including, but not limited to Orientation, Homecoming, and Friday’s at the Fountain.

    Serve as an Advisor to the Transfer Student Association and Commuter Student Union, providing on-going support and community development opportunities. 

    Develop positive relationships with residential students and maintain an on-campus presence on weekends and evenings when appropriate. 

     Serve as a resource and referral agent for students, parents, faculty, and staff.

    Serve on the campus’s Care Team, providing updates and support to students of concern.

    Investigate and adjudicate residential student conduct violations utilizing the Guardian by Campus Kaizen Conduct Software.

    Serve in the on-call duty rotation for the campus community of approximately 1200 residential students, responding to crises including students of concern, facilities concerns, disorderly conduct, and roommate disagreements.

    Coordinate departmental assessment efforts, including developing learning outcomes, assessment tools, and newly created competency clusters for programming designed for first-year students and upperclassmen.


    齐发88APPA Master’s degree, preferably in student personnel, counseling, education, or related field and two years of graduate experience in residence hall administration required, two or more years of professional experience is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Applicants must be student centered and display a strong understanding of student learning and development. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a knowledge of and commitment to issues of diversity and inclusion, social justice, civic engagement, and global citizenship.

    Registrar

    Birmingham-Southern College is pleased to announce an opening for Registrar of the College beginning immediately. We seek an individual who possesses the ability to provide leadership and oversight for the development, implementation, security, and management of activities and systems related to academic records, student registration, commencement, academic scheduling and the College Catalog.

    齐发88APPThe Registrar supervises an Assistant Registrar and a Records Manager while working in collaboration with a Degree Audit Specialist and other personnel in Academic Affairs. The Registrar also sits as a member of the Provost’s Cabinet which considers broad issues of academic policy and procedure. The Registrar is responsible for submitting accurate and timely data to a variety of off-campus sources including the Financial Aid Clearinghouse, NCAA, IPEDS, and others.

    The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree and a minimum of five years of experience in higher education and in student records; previous work experience at an institution accredited by SACSCOC preferred. A solid foundation in information technology systems is required in conjunction with a full knowledge of and ability to work with Ellucian Colleague data systems and the ability to teach such skills as appropriate to staff and faculty. The ability to supervise office staff and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students is vital to the success of this role.

    Vice President for Finance

    Chemistry Assistant Lecturer

    Birmingham-Southern College is accepting applications for a non-tenure track Chemistry Assistant Lecturer position to teach introductory and/or advanced courses for majors and non-majors beginning the Fall semester of 2020. This position is a continuing academic year appointment eligible for promotion. Optional summer teaching is available for additional compensation. This faculty position will be housed in the Department of Chemistry and Physics. Teaching responsibilities will include the General Chemistry sequence for first-year students. In addition, it could include an introductory chemistry course for non-majors, as well as laboratories in the introductory chemistry courses. Upper-level lecture or laboratory courses could be an option depending on the area of expertise of the candidate. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the use of inclusive and evidence-based teaching practices. At least 18 hours of graduate work in Chemistry or a closely related field is required, Ph.D. preferred.     Visiting Lecturer of Political Science and Black Studies

    齐发88APPBirmingham-Southern College seeks candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate courses for a Visiting Lecturer of Political Science and Black Studies position beginning August 2020.  Candidates should hold a doctorate in Political Science or expect to complete their degree by August 2020. The College seeks exceptional individuals committed to the liberal arts, with a proven record of teaching excellence. 

    The ideal candidate should be able to teach a broad range of political theory courses, including Introduction to Political Theory, teach Introduction to International Relations, and/or Introduction to Comparative Politics, and contribute to the interdisciplinary Black Studies program by teaching existing courses or courses in the candidate’s expertise.

    The teaching load is 3-1-3, including an interim term in January. During January, professors offer unique, innovative, experiential, and/or travel courses.
